The director of Guure Supply Company Limited, a company dealing in manufacture of excisable goods and a supervisor at the company were on 14th March, 2022 arraigned before Chief Magistrate Hon Micheni Kagendo at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi for various offences relating to violation of the provisions of the Excise Duty Act No.23 of 2015.
Abdifatar Mohamed Abdi and Silas Okwoma, were on 3rd February, 2022 found in possession 8461 bottles of Star falls drinking water affixed with counterfeit excise stamps at the factory located at Industrial Area, Nairobi while 6,588 bottles of Star falls drinking water affixed with counterfeit stamps which had been sold by the Company were intercepted before they were released to the market.
They pleaded not guilty to all offences and were granted bail/ bond terms. The matter will be mentioned on 28th March, 2022.
Meanwhile, Milimani law court has issued a warrant of arrest against Dalmus Kagochi Kagarii for failing to appear in court to answer to charges of forgery of KRA VIP parking sticker. Kagochi failed to appear in court on 11th March 2022 for plea taking.
Following intensified efforts to ensure that no government levies are lost, KRA officers on first March, 2022 conducted a crackdown on motor vehicle bearing the KRA VIP parking stickers within Nairobi Central Business District. It was then that it was discovered that a fake sticker was affixed to a vehicle belonging to Kagochi and that parking fees had not been paid.
KRA cautions the public against the existence of counterfeit products in the market and encourages reporting of any such malpractices. Further, members of the public are cautioned against the existence of fake parking stickers and to report any such malpractices.
