Migrated Legacy System Balances
Background of the Legacy Tax System
From the year 1992 to 2014, the Domestic Taxes Department (DTD) operated the Legacy Tax System, which was semi-automated. In this system, taxpayers’ accounts were created and PINs issued. Taxpayers were required to manually file and submit their returns for capturing in the System by Kenya Revenue Authority Officers.
All payments were manually captured upon submission of the tax return and pay-in slip to the KRA. The captured details for both tax returns and payments were maintained in the taxpayer’s ledger.
While operating these tax systems, the taxpayers maintained their filing and payment records concurrently.
Migration of Legacy System data to iTax
From August 2015, all taxpayers were on boarded into iTax which was an online system. Taxpayers could now file their returns independently and have sight of any updates in their profiles real time.
In order to have visibility of all the debts and taxpayer ledgers including those in the Legacy System, migration of Legacy ledger balances to the iTax system was necessary. Having successfully migrated the Legacy System data, the KRA is granting taxpayers an opportunity up to 31st December 2024 to review the migrated ledger balances and provide feedback on any gaps identified for adjustment or clarification.
